Caitlyn and I have been venturing to the hospital every morning to attend the daily medical rounds on Emily and Heather and, for some necessary cuddle time for all three of the girls. Jennifer had a great morning at her friend Austin's house allowing Mama and Caitlyn to make our trek. The play-dates seem to be great for Jennifer - she comes home and is quite tired and, has actually been napping! Wow!
Anyway, all the girls big and small had a great day.
Again, the 3 little ones seem to sense when they are together (and apart). Caitlyn has been waking in the middle of the night with a loud bleat - which when she's not indicating hunger, I can only assume is a call for her "womb-mates". When she is placed back in with them, she settles so well and has deep sleep. Regardless, all is well with her at home. It is quite common for some transition fussiness once a baby is discharged from the NICU - so far this has been mild. She continues to gain weight but somewhat slowly - she is now 5lbs 3oz
Emily had a great day - she finished her very first bottle on her own!! The marker is 48 hours of completing bottles without any need for tube feeds. This is the beginning of coming home! She gained some great weight again and is now at a weight of 2220 gms or 4.8 lbs. She had an ultrasound of her head again (normal for babes this age) and all was well. She also had an ultrasound of her heart last week which I only found out about 2 days ago - she has a small heart murmur which at this point is nothing to worry about and will likely resolve itself in time.
Heather too has been doing very well on her bottle feeding - had 2-3 full bottles over the past 24 hours - this is great progress. She has gained the most weight and has now surpassed Caitlyn at 5 lbs 4 oz. She is starting to gather some nice baby fat stores - double chin, chubby cheeks! Great to see. Her ultrasound of her head was also just fine. Caitlyn did not need a second head ultrasound as she had had an MRI recently which was also normal.
The big people are doing well also - tired but still standing! Jer had is official last day of work today until February 2011 but will unofficially be going in to finish some last bits of clean-up over the weekend. It will be great to have us all home and we will be able to focus our attention on gathering in the troops so-to-speak to help us care for these 4 fantastic girls.
