Triple Sensation: Springing forward!

Ahhhh -- well, spring has finally arrived here in Calgary - flowers are sneaking out of their wintry hide-outs, buds are bounding out of bare branches, the sun is rising well before we're ready to waken and birds are calling us at the window telling us the worms are plentiful! What a wonderful time of year!

The house abounds with activity as I'm sure you've come to expect. The girls (all 4) are loving the brightness of the season, the warmer air and fresh breeze that wafts through the open doors and windows. Our spirits are buoyed with the change in seasons and, with it, our ability to get outside a couple of times a day.

Once again, we've been busy; the babies getting on with moving forward in their development, Jennifer with growing taller every day and the Mama and the Papa just trying to keep up with, and ahead of, the multiple milestones that evolve daily.

In the past couple of weeks, Heather and Caitlyn have delighted us all by making strides towards four-point crawling (hands and knees). It's great to watch them exploring this new mode of transport and discover what further mischief they can get into. Emily continues to "struggle" -- my words not hers -- with attempts to move forward. She has become such an expert roller that her interest in commando-crawling or four-point crawling seem lost to her. She's happy and content though and, like her big sister, I'm sure will make her way into mobilizing herself at her own pace. Standing up is an exciting activity for all: Caitlyn can now pull herself up with ease, Heather is working towards fully pulling herself up and has managed to get to her knees thus far. Emily prefers some assistance still, however, enjoys the activity immensely. There is rarely a quiet moment when all four of the girls are awake. The babies are becoming more and more adept at chatting with each other, to Jennifer and to both Jer and I. We have yet to clearly hear a distinct word although the other day Ivy and I could have sworn Heather said "bye bye". Jennifer is a great mentor though and is an expert at sharing conversation with all of her sisters.

It's a great time watching the miracle of discovery unfold before our eyes every day. Jennifer announced to us yesterday that each of the babies is her "best friend" and she will play with them forever. [heart melting into a mushy puddle]. I hope for all four of them that Jennifer's statement will stay true.

We've recently had a lovely visit with friend Jen a couple of weeks ago and now have Grandpa and Grandma Fraser visiting for the week....Jennifer is beside herself with excitement any time we have extra company (or playmates as she would say). Our weeks upcoming will be steady with further appointments. The babies continue to wear their head-bands and will have another check in a weeks time. Hopefully, we'll be done with them after this visit; however, it may be another 8 weeks or so. No matter, they have not been bothered by them and the daily care is minimal. Emily, as I mentioned, has some gross-motor delay so I've lined up some physiotherapy for her which will commence next week. My hope is to get a private PT to come to the house; however, we'll have to check into that further. I recently had a long discussion with a developmental specialist, but we will have to wait further (likely 2-3 more months) for any actual therapy to take place to assist the girls: the waiting list for developmental support is very LONG! Heather continues to struggle with her feeding and likely we'll be back to the feeding clinic with her before not too long. For now, I take hope in knowing that many kids before her have struggled with feeding issues and learn to grow out of them.

So...that's about it. Time continues to go by at a rapid pace -- the girls will be a year (adjusted) in just over a month. [Jer and I still go by when the girls were supposed to be born (June 22) vs when they were actually born (April 13), and will do this likely until they are about 2 or so]...Our plans for the summer are still vague but we're hoping to get away for a bit to change up the scenery.
